Curado issues
My new Curado started thumping and acting really weird yesterday...After a few cranks of the handle and feeling around the line pawl and gear was the suspect...I noticed a plethora of grease around the line pawl...I set it down and keep fishing....Spoke with Birddog last night and he said his did the same...He took the pawl out and cleaned it and so far so good....I did the same tonight and it's casting well, no thumps...I suspect they pack the line pawl full of grease and it doesn't tighten down and seat well.....The line pawl cap has a hole for grease and water to escape, that's where the grease was coming out.....
So, if you get a new Curado and it starts thumping, remove the line pawl , clean it, realign it, lube it and it should be good....there's a microscopic washer in there as well, watch for it

I hear that.....I think their just putting too much grease in the pawl and when the grease or metal expands from friction it pushes the grease out the hole, leaving play for the pawl to slip out of position....Tom Keels wrote:For as much as that thing costs they should be self cleaning.
I'll have a few Abu Garcia's on Ebay in a few days if you need one

Is it the new 200D series? If so, how is it different from the 200B...other than about $70 more expensive and built with more expensive parts?
The new 200Ds are hyped as being salt water ready, the 200Bs were not but I found them to perform quite well in salt water.
I've been chunking 201Bs and 201BSFs for years and haven't had a problem with anything except ocassional "user error." Of corse I keep them cleaned, inside and out, on a regular basis.
We spoke with Heath at South Georgia Outdoors yesterday and he said that the Shimano Castaic is the reel that is now comperable ( price and performance) to the Curado 200B. (By the way, if anyone is looking to buy a new rod and/or reel and are in the Cairo Ga. area, give Heath a call. I found he has the best prices in this area. He was also a sponsor of the BBF.net 2006 social. I purchased a Stradic reel from him last week and he saved me about $20 when compared to the low price on-line stores.)

If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.

I buy all of my guns and as much of my sporting stuff from Heath as I can. There isn't a finer fellow in the business than Heath! (Now about that gift certificate Heath j/k)Short Strike wrote:Hay Chalk:

Short Strike....It's a different reel than a 200B....I have a 200BSF...The newer one has a bigger gear....The spool is different..it has the VBS as the older Chronarch's....It's a touch bigger as well...just as light though.
I just bought a new Shimano Citica...I figure it's the cost replacement for the older Curado.....Super smooth casting and drag....Caught all my fish on the Citica Sunday
Thanks for using South Georgia Outdoors...
