Prop selection for a 98' Johnson

Post by Ratred »

I have a 1998 Johnson 4 stroke with a 9x11 3 blade prop. I was wondering if I decreased my pitch to a 7, would that give me any more GOGO for my little MoMo? Any ideas or suggestions? :smt004

Could you provide a little more information? What horsepower? What boat? How many RPM are you turning? How is your hole shot now?

The hp is 9.9 at 4000-5000 RPM and I'm in a 14' Aluminum Jon boat. With me and a friend the motor works fine, I guess what I'm asking is would a prop pitch change make that much difference.

It would give you a better hole shot, but probably wouldn't help your speed. My concern is if you drop in pitch you might turn too many RPM.

You're probably right about too many RPM. The more I use the boat and this motor, the more I like it, speed be damned. Thanks for the insight. :D
