Question about depth finder

Post by catchin1 »

I've got the Garmin 178 GPS/Depth finder combo. My partner in the tourny Sat. has the same unit. His reads depth while on plane running 40mph. Mine don't. Same units, transducers mounted the same. Whats the difference?

Different hull, right....It could be one of three things....The unit, it's not down far enough or your hull (kinda the same as the second)....When I go my boat, the transducer was just level with the bottom of the boat and it wouldn't read good on plane, it would come on and off....I lowered it down to where the transducer is 1/8" below the hull surface....Mine works great now, except two foot really equals 1 foot sitting still :o

If your boat creates alot of turbulance or it's near the motor...it will cause problems...my old Lancer was like that...wouldn't even think about reading while running.

Let us know whatcha come up with

Try pitching the transducer so the back is slightly below the front. This keeps a good water flow over the ducer and keeps air bubbles from forming.

I suspect also it had to do with transducer postition. I'll try to change angle as Tom suggested, before remounting, but I'm bent on making it work right, now.

Could it have anything to do with settings? It is set for saltwater and 200mgh.

Shouldn't have anything to do with the settings. re position the transducer. That's almost always the problem.
What was I supposed to do today?
