I don't know. I gave one away for the same problem. Been buying Hummimbirds ever since. They are inexpensive and reliable. Since we go thru about one a year on various boats it's the best deal for us. Also, the way they change features and drop prices it makes more sense to us.

I got one of those to. If you find a solution, please post it. I just bought a brand new transducer for it, and hate to throw it away. I bought a Lowrance X105C, and I hope it holds up, but I also purchased a 3 year replacement warranty for it so if it doesn't, I figure I will at least get 3 years of use out of it.

Pa, send it to Eagle. There is usually a flat rate repair charge, and they'll turn it around in a week.

You guys are worrying me. I have ben thinking about getting a GPS/fish finder for months. Last week the New Bass pro came out and they had the Eagle® SeaCharter® 500C DF Color Sonar/GPS+WAAS Combo
for 499

I was thinking hard about ordering it and then read this post.

Is Eagle an ok product or not?

Garmin would run about 700 for a similar unit.

any words of wisdom from the peanut gallery

Eagle and Lowrance are the same company. Lowrance is the elite line, Eagle being the lesser expensive line. I've had several Eagle units over the years. As long as the machines were in warranty, Eagle took care of any problems. Even took care of a few out of warranty.

I've been happy with Eagle on inshore boats. I just bought another one this weekend at Bass Pro in ATL. I never had any problems with the 2 previous models I had. I would probably go with something else for offshore use.

You might want to check out R&R Boat Repair and Restoration in Attapulgus Ga. They are only 30 miles north of Tallahassee on Business Hwy 27. They do everything when it comes to boats and electronics. Electronics,props...EVERYTHING. I don't know if they have a website or not, but their number is 229-465-2628. I had a friend that used them to rebuild a transom and they do very good work. :-D

JOHN, I EMAILED THEM YESTERDAY AND THEY SAID FOR ME TO SEND IT TO THE FACTORY AND THEY WOULD REPLACE IT WITH A UPDATED UNIT FOR $35.00 PLUS POSTAGE. CAN'T BEAT THAT WITH A STICK. I HAD A EAGLE CHART PLOTTER A WHILE BACK ON MY 22' AQUASPORT, IT STARTED MESSIN UP AFTER ABOUT 6 MONTHS,, SENT IT INTO FACTORY AND THEY SENT ME THE LATEST MODEL THEY HAD WITH SOME ADDITIONAL FEATURES, ALL I HAD TO PAY WAS THE POSTAGE, GOOD PEOPLE.
THIS UNIT I HAVE NOW IS THE CHEAPEST THING THEY SELL, I JUST USE IT MAINLY AS A DEPTH MACHINE IN FRESH WATER. IT IS 10 YRS. OLD AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE HAD ANY PROBLEM WITH IT. THE LAST TIME I USED IT ON THE WAY BACK TO THE DOCK I HIT SOMETHING AND IT SCRATCHED THE TRANSDUCER PRETTY GOOD, IT MAY HAVE SHORTED IT OUT, THAT MAY BE MY PROBLEM. I WILL FIND OUT WHEN THE NEW UNIT GETS HERE.

bman.....I have had Eagle GPS and depth finders for years and years. Nothing wrong with them. When I finally did have a malfunction I sent the unit back to the factory, out of warrenty, and they sent me a replacement unit for a small price.
I like em.
I had a depth finder on my last boat, Eagle, that even played songs...when fishing slowed down. One of the songs was, Anchors Away. I was in Aucilla river one day, and as I passed 2 guys fishing I played it. Both of them stood up and saluted as I passed. Never forgot that. :)
