Anky 3/23-25

Post by RHTFISH »

Thursday was awesome! Got on water about 12:30 and headed
to Hickory Mound area. After trying a creekmouth with only one
small red I headed out about 60 yards to an exposed bar and
immediately caught a small red. While trying to dehook the rascal,
a couple neighbors of mine had started over to check my catch
and didn't see the bar until they came to an abrupt halt on top of it.
Now that's a sight to behold. I finally was able to pull them off the
bar and they headed into a creek with their fresh bruises and sprains.
Moved about quarter mile east and stayed about 3 feet...water 68 degrees...overcast and quite calm....topwater time. From the first cast
I had trout averaging about 16-17" fighting over the ole trusty
ChugBug. Afternoons like that make it all worthwhile! Over the next
three hours or so drifting the same quarter mile or so I'm sure I
caught at least 75 fish. I put a CT out with plastic shrimp and
started getting hits on it so fast I could not leave it in the rodholder.
As you can imagine, I went to sleep that night anticipating more of
the same on Friday and Saturday.
As Ron White so eloquently says..."I was wrong!"
Awoke Sat am to sound of wind almost tearing my canopy off side
of camper. To say it was windy on Friday would make the top ten
list of understatements of the century! And, naturally, it got much
cooler if not downright cold. Went back to same area on Sat after
lunch with wind back to normal levels of "brisk" and water temp
down to 58. Hard to fish creeks with wind and nothing at all in
my little "quarter mile of heaven on Thursday."
Ole Ski barge still not leaking and new electric working like a charm...
life is good! Should be even better when water warms back up!
It may be that my sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Thanks for sharing Redfin....you should add a pic of it now for
comparison. I have the same color scheme....I kept the original
striped upholstery until it just plain rotted away last year.
When mine was rebuilt by the Vaughn's in Steinhatchee, a
battery locker was added on back on one side and a livewell
on the other. In the 19' I had several years ago I used the spaces for
twelve gallon tanks which fit very snugly.

I've always enjoyed the front deck space...room to roam!
I also just swapped my ole dying Kota which had little power
for an 80# model with 3X steering...awesome!!!!!!!

:o

Now that's too funny...each time it was mentioned I never made the connection...no wonder I liked the pics so much!

Well, I guess it's right as you get older the mind is the second thing to go!
:-D

Thanks again for sharing!

I'm surely going to miss the Vaughn's....great folks!
It's still hard for me to imagine their property covered with
townhouses. Mr. Vaughn said he's going to rebuild an old
fiberglass houseboat and take it to the Altamaha River to live.

When I was down there last the area was pretty void of anything
resembling a boat except a hull mold from a 19 Ski Barge. He said he
had always wanted to build a Texas style flats boat from the hull.
It may be that my sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

I'll second that! Also consider numerous rocks and oyster bars,
excessive launch fees, limited parking and worst of all...
exposure to ANKYFAEENAEANS!
