St Marks Fri March 31

Post by T Smith »

Haven't had time to post yet, but here it goes.

Stopped by Jerry's for a few dozen shrimp and Scott tried to sell me the supossed magic bait from Keaton???

Don't know, but whatever it was it looked like a knock off Yo-Zuri.

Left the light house around 8 and two boats were headed out the channel. They stopped all the sudden and started casting, I though maybe they found some spanish or blues, but then said na too early and headed out to the rock garden.

It was slow at first water was aroung 67 in 3', not much happened till around noon.

First fish was a catfish on shrimp, but then the bite was steady from about 12' to 3:30. We caught them on shrimp, a catch 2000, two different grubs and a plastic shrimp under a CT.

Caught a total of five trout on two of the riptide plastics that came stuffed in the hats from the social. I caught four trout on the mullet and one on the shrimp before it ripped.

Total for the day, about 20 trout, 2 keepers
about 10 were 14 1/2 " that seems to be all I catch

all in all a great day on the water, by days end the water temp was 70' in 3' of water. The flats are really starting to come alive we saw about a dozen huge stingrays, small sharks, glass minnows, a sea turtle and the pinfish are all over.

Saw one of the boats that stopped in the channel at the ramp, he said they caught spanish and blues that were schooling there, they also caught a pompano out by the bird rack. I guess we shoulda stopped.

anyways the spring blitz is starting :-D :D :smt038 :smt040 :smt038

secret keaton bait.

That Scott is something else. He was pushing the lures made by Bite-a-Bait. They are supposed to be the "new" thing. At least according to Capt. Pat. I of course bought a few and plan on finding out tomorrow.

Sounds like you had a good day. Spring has definately sprung.
