St. Marks April 5

Post by Fighting Conch »

Went exploring yesterday and worked in a little fishing.

The day started with a cold wind from the northwest but by late afternoon it was blowing briskly from the south. First up Peters Rock, then Grey Mare, Porpoise Creek, Deep Creek, up behind Palmetto Island, Stoney Bayou and back to check out the bars around the mouth of the St. Marks.

Not many boats out - saw maybe 10 altogether. A couple of mullet boats seemed to be doing well east of Palmetto Island. Visited by a friendly FMP officer near the lighthouse. In a sour note, upon returning to the ramp I discovered someone had jacked-around the uprights that hold the lights on my trailer but with a little bungy work it was good enough to go.

Oh yeah, three medium trout, a nice red and a ray. But a nice day anyway.

Nice day on the water, too bad about your trailer. Were you parked at the LH ramp?
You gonna talk, or you gonna fish?

Skag,
yea thats too bad about the trailer, I usually throw the tie down strap and a few odds and ends in the back of my truck before heading out, guess I better start locking it in the cab.

But you caught more fish than most of us yesterday

I launched out at the lighthouse and parked in the second or third spot closest to the ramp. It was a quiet day in the parking lot and since damage was done to both uprights I guess someone thought it would be fun to give them a good yank. Looks like I will need some new bottom plates for the U bolts. Oh well.

PS - By message I informed the refuge people and also suggested they mount some web cams on top of the lighthouse to allow internet viewing of conditions on the water! Would'nt that be nice!

Hate to hear ya got messed with at the lighthouse, Skag. I've never had anything bothered there. Makes me wonder if kids are playing during spring break.

BTW, glad ya caught a few fish.
What was I supposed to do today?

By the way, Tin Can, I went clear up to the top of Stoney Bayou to the levee (still breached from Dennis) and there were a couple of guys fishing in a green metal boat with a Honda on the back. I backed away to not disturb but wondered if it was you.
