Well, we gave it a try Friday and had a good day fish'in. Launched and went out on falling tide at 8 am, real low at mouth and had to go out slow. Water was slick, first time I've seen it that way this year. Me and wife fished together, FM 989 and friend in another boat. They went west and we tried east, took a while and found some trout in 3 ft. water about 1.5-2 miles out. Got 4 15-16 inch keepers and lots of shorts. radioed Dad and said we found a few, they came up and got 3 keepers. Then it stopped so we went looking all over, down to excavator near Hicory Mound and got 2 more keepers. No reds inshore. Dad went back over to first place we found 'em and about 1 pm they got 3 more keepers and some shorts. When we made it back over, tide rising fast and wind getting bad. Found more shorts but no more keepers. Had 4 lines cut by somethiing, Spanish maybe? We did best with white-curly tail grubs, red-white catch 2000 and gulp minnow baits. There were a lot of glass minnows in the water so I'm sure that's what they fed on. Dad had sone kind of gulp curly-tail bait that I've never seen and they got a buncha fish on them. There was very little bait, only caught 3 shiners all day and caught no fish on them.
It was fun, Glad to get home. Both boats had 6 keepers, Dad had one he said went 4 pounds. Water surprisingly clear, was dingy 2 weeks ago.
