I dont want to see another trout for at least 2 weeks

Post by BlueDrifter »

Today St. Marks light 12:30-3:30.

To windy to fish much from Yak so wade fished both sides and almost full length of the two large oysters bars. No hits. Since the wind was blowing towards the basin channel I paddled out a couple of hundred yards from the end of the bar closest to the light and set up a drift. Set out a rattle trap under a CT and cast with my other rod using a rootbear grub. second cast first trout to small (less than 12" ) cast again another hookup then immediatly a hook up on the rattle trap. To make long story short I did 9 drifts before hitting the channel to the boat basin . Quit counting at 17 or so and caught at leas  t five more . The doubles were so frequent I had to put the CT away. No keepers but loads of fun.

No one else ther caught reds but the ones I talked to (power boaters) said their trout were fast and furious but only two kepers amongst them. One guy had one keeper trout.
So the day was  especially since I got to skip work. Now will someone tell me where the keeper reds are? I am so hungry.

Bluedrifter, did I read this right? A rattle trap under a CJ dragging behind the boat? If so how often do you do this and how much success do you have with it?

BTW nice report.

rattle trap

This was suggested to me by a friend I was kind of laughing as you must be . Rattle trap was 24 " behind and below the CT with a leisurely paddle/drift . Worked a bunch on this trip but then again this was all pure luck. Must have been around a couple of hungry large schools of small fish. He also trolls topwater which I haven't done.

Excuse the newbie question, but what is a CJ / CT?

Thanks!

Ron,

CT refers to the cajun thunder float commonly used with shrimp and jigs

Ahhh, thank you! I know what those are and use them. Hehehehe. It's funny how sometimes you'll see an abbreviation and won't be able to figure it out to save your life. That was one of those!!!

Thanks for the clue-in!
