It was Saturday morning when two men put the boat in at Lanark Marina. It was a little after 6:am when I walked back to the truck to get my drift sock since it was a â€œlittleâ€

The weather kept me home this morning 'cause I was taking my wife a son with me. Glad you caught some, but it is scary when the lightening starts up and you have no place to go

AJ we ran to the shore because the trees in that area go almost all the way to the chore line. We didn't want to be the tallest object in the area. There was lot's of lightning. We watched the leading edge of the storm pass us by and go over Dog Island. It seems the lightning was concentrated on the leading edge of the storm. I feel sure if we had stayed and continued to fish we'd quickly bag our limit, but the rain kept up just enough to make it miserable. The ride back to the marina was short but it felt like 20 miles because of the driving rain..... We took my buddies boat, 17 Cobia, and he only has a hand-held VHS and we never even turned it on. We could have avoided it all if we had tuned to the weather station VHS 22 while we were waiting for first light. I stopped at the Dollar tree on the way home and picked up some of those 2 for a 1$ disposable ponchos. They make a great gift and sure would have been handy if we'd had them at the time.....

Sounds like a 'memorable' trip MJ - glad you guys got back safely.

BTW - The Lanark Ramp - Is the ramp located next to the gas station, across from the golf course? How much does it cost to put in there?

I'm thinking about maybe putting in there next weekend - anything important I oughta know about running that area?

My dad has always said that its mostly held true. Glad you are safe.

I thought it was "red sky at night, sailors delight". Oh well, either way it has always seemed to be true whenever I check it. I hope for red evenings next Thursday through Sunday

MJ, I've had to run to shore before also so I know what it is like. Sad to say it but if I had been going out Sat. by myself I would have been in it with you, even knowing the forcast

The Lannark Ramp - Is the ramp located next to the gas station, across from the golf course? How much does it cost to put in there?

The ramp belongs to the Lannark Boat Club. You must be a land owner in Lanark to be a member and the dues are $100 a year. If your not a member, it's $10 fee. My old buddy is a member of the boat club and still complains about the annual membership fee...

If you try to launch and get away without paying, they have been known to have the vehicle and trailer towed away.

Thanks MommaK- Tin Can once said that "I am the luckiest man alive". I certainly "pushed my luck".

Next time I'll double check the weather BEFORE I go out..... I remember that saying also, and it was going through my mind as we turned into the channel... "I remember it being red sky at night is a sailors delight, red sky in the morning is a sailors warning". Here is an interesting link about the adage I was kind of wondering why there were only four other trailers in the parking lot.. I'm sure it was the weather.

"hardcore"? I don't really think so. I just enjoy goin fishing year round, day or night, different waters, and target different species. I've still got a allot of learning to do.

Dave7-
Lanark Ramp and dock area is excellent. Good deep water launch point. Be sure to look at channel map for way out at ramp or ask inside.

Problems:

Oyster bar/rock right in the middle of the way out of the protected area.
Channel is only about 3 feet wide.
Hang a right as soon as you clear the jetty, go about 1 mile to cut.

You can fly if you know where the channel is, but if you drift 10' off center you

WILL

run aground.
