Took my trailer and boat down to Coastal in Medart this week and Dan called me at 2:00 today to let me know it was ready. Let me start by saying Dan's a great guy and I highly recommend Coastal to anyone who needs any trailer work.
Now Medart is about half way to Lanark so it would make no sense for me to pick up the boat and not head to the coast . . . right. So I sneak out of the office, run home, grab a couple fly rods, my gear and hit the road. Boat launched by 4:30 and fishing by 5:00. Unfortunately, the wind is humming out of the southwest and it makes things tough. I decided to run over to Dog Island and check out some new water. The fish were there and were cooperative. I ended the day at 7:30 with seven reds and a nice 5lb trout. I don't know what the deal is but I am seeing lots of big trout in the skinny stuff this year. This gal was traveling with a couple of small males:
Well it only made sense, you had to test it out. Nice fish . I have yet to catch one over 20" this year but all the 18-19 7/8" fish have come from shallow water.
EVERY TROUT I HAVE PICKED UP THIS YEAR OVER 20" HAS BEEN IN 2' OR LESS UP CLOSE TO THE BANKS WHILE I WAS CHASING REDS. LAST TIME OUT A FAT 24"ER HALF WAY UP SECRET CREEK.
