Boat axle??

Post by rocket »

While in Carrabelle this weekend I cut a corner too sharp, (too big of a hurry to trying to finally fish after the wind layed down!) hit a huge hole, and launched my boat/trailer what looked like 5' in the air!
Front wheel/tire is leaning out past the one behind it. Trailered it home this afternoon with no problem.
Trashfish Masterson says I bent the axle, what say you fine folks?
If said axle needs replacing, which has brakes (the line broke off when I Duke Boyed my trailer!) who should I take it to?

Charles, should you hit the hole going the other way or hit the hole in reverse. :-D

There is (or at least was a couple of years ago) someone in Tallahassee that would straighten an axle.... PROVIDED... it was the axle and not the spindle (part that goes into the wheel). The spindle is usually the weakest part and the first to bend. If its the spindle, I doubt that it can be straightened. You should be able to look at it and determine if it's the spindle or not. Based on your description of how it looks, sounds like a spindle to me. Take it to Coastal Trailer and Hitch, 2551 Coastal Hiway, Medart, 32327, 850-984-0728 They are the best around. Quality work, Fair prices, Quick turnaround.

Sir Reel,
The spindle is what I originally thought, but others say it is the axle. I guess I'll run it by Coastal.
If it did not have brakes on it, I would give a stab at replacing it myself.

Sirmons Alignment can straighten it, if it's the axle. If it's the spindle, it's time for a new axle. Coastal Trailer
What was I supposed to do today?
