How do you tie a topwater lure on your line?

This area is for general discussions about fishing, rigging, baits, etc.

For years I used nothing but an improved clinch with a stopper knott on the tail.
But recently I started using a polomar and have great results with Mono and Braid.

Anyone use a loop knot?

A polomar is a very good knot, but when using braid I suggest putting a dab of super glue on the knot. Another good knot to use especially if you are in the weeds, is a knot to where you go in line doubled like a polomar, take the loop, pull enough through to wrap from top down and loop in at eye and cinch downward, only thing pull slow with mono so you don't burn the line. You only need about four twist.

I use a bowline.

Simple and effective. May not be a 100% knot but since the leader is usually quite a bit heaver than the line it just doesn't matter.

I never use a leader for topwater. Use 17lb. and a uni-knot forming a loop to let the lure swing freely.

Only using mono, I tie everything straight to the line with a uni.

The only exception to this is if I'm targeting something especially toothy, like Spanish and blues.
