St Marks Lighthouse 5-6

Post by Redfish Jim »

Been totally out of commission for the last month fishing wise :smt010

Went yesterday just to see if the water was still there. Left the LH at about noon. Nice weather at first and I read that they were catching grouper in 25' so I headed to some nearshore rocks in 25'. Fish were there but all small. Did troll up a 33" cobia and let him go because I forgot my big ice chest :hammer:

Headed inshore after that and the wind started to pick up pretty good.

Then the highlight of the day: a jack crevalle that I'm guessing would have gone 12 - 15 pounds. Biggest one I've ever caught. Fish hit a chug bug and took about 40 mins to bring him in on light tackle. Can't tell you how many times I had him close to the boat and I thought the fight was over. Then he would peel off 50 yards in a split second. I think he wore me out worse than I wore him out but I got him to the boat and got my chug bug back.

Stayed about 30 more mins and the wind started to really howl. Caught a 20" trout and a 20" redfish and headed in. Caught these two on a johnson gold spoon. Back on the trailer at 4:30.

Busy time's over for me so I guess it's about time for it to start raining every day.

Glad ya got out there, Jim.

Glad to hear the Cobia are around.

The wind has been relentless for the past several weeks. Sounds like you made the best of it.
What was I supposed to do today?

Beautiful. Another report of Crevalle. They've been scarce in recent years. And topwater at that. Ya hoo!

i was out there too. But I was in a smaller ride than you. I limited on trout and helped a fellow catch a few mullet for eating in his cast net. A few gators got up close and personnel with my kayak, I guess they like blue. It was my first trip out there, and am surprised it was crowded.
