Icky - 05/13/06

Post by Mark K »

What a day!!! Beautiful weather, family, and a few fish. We (Dad, my son Brennan, and my baby brother GaSportsman) headed out about 0745 and went to our Rock Bass hole. We put 8 keepers in the boat with a few throw backs. Also managed a 16" and 18" grouper that were released.
When the bite slowed we headed in looking for some trout. Found a few here and there. We probably caught 15 or so trout with only 4 keepers but they were 17-19".
My brother had a honey-do to take care of so we needed to leave about 1500. We decided to head in and fish a little creek on the high tide (1430). Glad we did. GaSportsman ended up with a 6lb. 26" Redfish.
The Rock Bass and grouper were caught on jigs and Redfish Magics. The trout on jigs and CT's. the Red on a jig. The weather was perfect. No wind until after lunch and then it wasn't blowing but maybe 5mph.

sounds like the right place place at the right time ! Yea, I haven't been out fishn' nearly enough, but from what I hear it sounds like "jigs'" are the secret Most of my fishin' atleast on salt water has aways been live shrimp.... but I need to look for some new options, an these jigs seem to be a skill I need to concur !
Best of luck to ya

Whoever heard of a camera you have to hold down for 15secs.? The picture I thought I took would've been frameable. The sun was hitting the Red just right to catch all his colors; the beautiful Icky coastline in the background... oh well just catch another one and I'll be sure to take my camera!!!
