Question for trout?
When I go to the flats I either use corks or without Which is better
WHICH EVER WORKS!
My response is in no way intended to offend. You need to be prepared to do both. Sometimes its the Cajun Thunder that works sometimes it's the straight jig. Sometimes the CT will work early and then they want the straight jig or Viceversa. If you have more than one rod, set one of them up with a CT and the other one with a straight jig. If you have a miss on the CT.....follow it with the straight jig.

"Good Judgement" comes from experience, ... and a lot of that..... results from "Bad Judgement".
Question for Trout?
For this year, I have caught more fish without cajun thunder though and a straight jig with a bait strip.
No short answers to your question, which is, of course, why it's called fishing. There is good information out there but there is absolutely no substitute for many hours and years on the water. So if you don't plan on investing real time in it then any advice you get is really just words.
Meanwhile, here's some really good "information".
Read it & let us know what you think.
