whats the best way to hook a live shrimp with a 1/4 oz jig head???

Pretty much any where but the dark spot in the shrimps head. Hit the dark spot and he'll die.

I have always liked to hook them through the tail, about where it bends when they flip it back. Shrimp swim backwards when fleeing a predator, so when you hook it in the tail and jig it appears to be fleeing, therefore it may look a more natural.

as stated above, dodge the brown spot on the skrimps head....through the crown or through the 3rd band from the tail.....they (whoever they are) say that this releases pheromones from the shrimp that attracts fish....Also, you might have better luck not going w/ a jig head....just put a kahle hook through the shrimp and fish it corolina style, or throw a small split shot about the shrimp a couple of feet so the shrimp can swim naturally.....maybe a popping cork a few feet above the split shot to keep the shrimp out of catfish alley on the bottom..... :thumbup:
