Another good trip-Aucilla.5-30
Had another good trip on the big pond, got there and my buddy says, " hey, I left my tackle box at home".
Not good. I says to him, "that's ok, you can watch me catch fish all day". He had rods and I always carry too much tackle , so we were ok. He catches a fiddler crab off the floating dock walking to the boat and we head out. Tide falling but plenty of water, set up first drift at 8 am. Jim hooks his little crab on a CT with assassin eel and proceeds ta catch a fat 18'' trout real quick. I guess litle crabs make good trout bait? Then he gets 3 more on the CT rig, me with nothing. I started ta think maybe loaning him the tackle might have been a mistake. Then, BAM! I get 21'' trout on white gulp shrimp. Water was about 4-4.5 ft. deep and spotty bottom. Stayed in same area all morning and ended up with 10 good trout to 21'', most were 16-18''. Also a small cobia about 23'', 2 small sharks, 1 ladyfish, several hardheads and the biggest jolthead I ever caught. Lost a big blue to cutoff. And a short spanish. Big coia tailing everywhere when the water got calm. cast to several but no hookups. They would have spooled me anyway from the size.
Jim had his best day ever on the flats, beat me 6-4 on keepers. We had a good time.Left at 1 pm and had time to do some mowing.
Oh yeah, we only had 1 trout under 15'' all day.
Yours in the South

Day Before
Friend and his buddies were at the very same place Monday. They put in at St Marks in a 21 foot boat and came over your way. They only caught 7 trout....but they landed a 96lb shark that was 6 1/2 feet long. They were fishing for them...and had the right tackle. That's part of what has been tearing up the place when we have been down there.
