MOONLITIN MASHES SANDS

Post by FUTCHCAIRO »

LAST NIGHT JIMMY HOLDEN CAME BY THE HOUSE AND WANTED ME TO GO MOONLITIN WITH HIM AND TWO OF HIS CLIENTS. NATURALLY I COULD NOT RESIST, WE GOT TO THE LANDING ABOUT 11 P.M., HARDLY ANY WIND AND VERY PLESANT AIR TEMP. WE KICKED OUT TO THE 3 CHANNELS AND GOT ON A POINT OF ONE. WE WERE CASTING TOP WATER PLUGS OF ALL SIZE AND SHAPES. WE FINISHED FISHING ABOUT 2 A.M., WE HAD CAUGHT 72 TROUT WITH 18 KEEPERS BETWEEN 17 AND 26". THE WATER WAS BEAUTIFUL AND WAS JUST RIGHT, I HAVE BEEN WONDERING WHY WE HAVE NOT CAUGHT MANY TROUT DURING THE DAY, NOW I KNOW, THEY ARE FEEDING AT NIGHT. THE BIGGEST FISH OF THE NIGHT WAS A TARPON ABOUT 125-150#, JIMMY HAD HAD A GOOD STRIKE AND THE FISH DID NOT TAKE THE PLUG AND HE WAS REELING IN REAL FAST TO MAKE ANOTHER CAST, WHEN THE PLUG WAS ABOUT 20' FROM THE BOAT THIS TARPON CAME OOUT OF THE WATER WITH JIMMIES SKITTER WALK IN HIS MOUTH, THAT FISH LANDED PARTLY ON THE BOW OF THE BOAT AND THE REST OF HIM IN THE WATER, WE ALL GOT SOAKED TO THE SKIN. JIMMY PLAYED HIM FOR 2 JUMPS AND THEN THE LINE PARTED. TALK ABOUT MAKING THE OLD TICKER RACE A LITTLE, THAT WILL DO IT. BOTH OF THE MEN FROM COLUMBUS HAD NEVER BEEN SALTWATER FISHIN, THEY ARE HOOKED FOR GOOD NOW, THEY BOOKED JIMMY ON THE SPOT FOR NEXT FRI. NIGHT FOR ANOTHER TRY.
WE ALL HAD A GREAT TIME BUT I WAS COMPLETELY WORN OUT BY THE TIME I GOT BACK TO THE HOUSE. TOOK A SHOWER AND HIT THE BED AND SLEPT FOR ABOUT 12 HRS. , I HARDLY EVER SLEEP OVER 4-5 HOURS AT ONE TIME. JIMMY WANTS ME TO GO WITH HIM NEXT FRI. , I GUESS I WILL HAVE RESTED ENOUGH TO TRY IT AGAIN.

A 150 lb tarpon in the middle of the night, bouncing off the boat has got to be a rush :o Wish I didn't have to work tommorrow :-D Not too bad to pull in 72 trout either.
