Fishing Trip "Shot"....

Post by mjsigns »

I guess we should have stayed in Tallahassee.

Saturday, on the way over to Mississippi, my mom's car broke down on the interstate just east of DeFuniak Springs.
The transmission seemed to just "let-go" as we were climbing a hill on the interstate. Called Triple A and waited about 2 hours on the roadside. Didn't see the first State Troper, but a friendly trucker hauling vehicles stopped to offer assistance for about an hour. We had enough cold drinks and food to sustain us for a while. Triple A Towed us into Defuniak and set the car down at "Rockman's Automotive" (they had closed their shop at noon and we just missed them. We walked over to walmart (acaross the street) and tried to find a rental car company that would deliver a vehicle to us. Enterprise, Hertz as well as others claimed we were outside of their (45 mile) delivery territory. We were stranded. Called my brother in Mississippi and he drove 160 miles to Defuniak to pick us up. Since the I-10 eastbound lane of the bridge in Pensacola is still one lane, that delayed his arrival. He finally arrived to pick us up around 6:30pm. We had waited in Walmart for over 6 hours. Finally arrived in Gulfport around 10pm (exhausted).

Sunday evening we got word from the ship captain the ($2,000) fishing trip, out of Dolphin Island, was canceled due to 20-25 mph winds and seas 8-10'. : - ( :smt009

Received a call from Rockman's in, Defuniak Sprgs, that he said he would not be able to look at the car till Monday afternoon/evening, and would give us a call.

I am not sure if we are going to make it back to Tallahassee by Tuesday.

Looks loke we'll be renting a car and driving back to Tallahassee.

DeFuniak Sprgs is in FL right ? An hour or so west of Tally right? Why did your brother have to come from MIss? Why not someone from Tally? Am I missing something. Not to make light of your misfortunes, I hate it happened for you. Just curious.

BTW 6 hrs in Wally world...did you buy some fishing tackle? :-D

Not fun. I'm sure you could navigate that fishing aisle blindfolded by the time you got out of there...
