J16 Skiff --> Rod Holder Modification

Post by mojokoko »

I was thinking about putting some Rod Holders on the sides of the boat right around the console area. That way I can keep around 4 rods on each side and will allow for more fishing room. Any of you guys have any advise on how to do this or what rod holders to use?

Why not just put a rod holder on the left side of the console?

Boaters world has a 3 rod stainless with places for your pliers and a knife for $49.00 and it works well on my boat and it would fit nicely on the left side of the console.

I believe I found the same one on Cabelas website. I am going to order 2 of those once I make sure they will fit. The only other thing I would like to know is what kind of drill bit do you need to drill into a J16?

I have a J-16 Center console.

I mounted the rod holders to the center console- I wouldnt drill through the side of the boat  But to each his own...

Any drill bit meant for wood will work on fiberglass

If you do drill through use 3M 5200 Adhesive.. You can get it at Boaters World or West marine. It is the same stuff Carolina Skiff uses at the factory.
