i need to get my wife another spinning outfit. last weekend we had a accident and hers was lost on the flats. trying to decide between a shimino stradic 4000 and a quantum cabo 40.
any suggestions on what is your favorite reel?

The stradic is a good one But not as good as the Cabo. I do reel repair on the side for Jerrys bait and tackle and can tell you by working on the Stradic's they should not corrode like they do. I know there are a lot more Shimano's bought than Cabo's and that's one reason I see more of them but I haven't never had a cabo to work on. I think I would go with the Cabo, I'm sure you'll here a different tune from other people. One more thing about Shimano and their parts department, if you need parts I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't even have'm it happens to me on a regular basis they tell me there on back order, It happen yesterday
Pflueger Medalist,9 stainless bearings, stainless shaft and aluminum body.I have used 3 for the past 4 years without any problems and they are still smooth as silk.Ijust clean them well after each use and spray them down with reel magic.
GOD does not deduct the days spent fishing from ones life
both killer deals fo rthe old lady.. never had a cabo, but luv both my Stradic 2500's.... she'll be happy and have a great reel either way... the only way my wife would know those names would be if Anne Taylor sold them...
I started the year with two new Shimano Spheros 4000's and have been well pleased with them..Somewhat less expensive than the Stradic.. However, after this past trip using Chronarch's I expect I'll be using the bait casters a lot more..
My favorite spinning reels are the Stamina series from Abu Garcia, they have the drag in the bottom of the spool instead of the top. It gives you much more surface area for consistent and smoother drag performance, and you change the pressure by spinning a ring on the outside of the spool, not on the top which can be hard to do when fighting a fish. Give them a try and you will not be disappointed. The newest saltwater version is this one: Abu Garcia Cardinal 770 Click Here
