Carrabelle, where to launch my boat.

Post by Steve Hendley »

I wonder if any of you guys that fish out of Carrabelle would tell me what places are available to launch a boat to go off shore at Carrabelle?
I would like to plan a trip out of there but would like some info first.
Any other issues or hazards that I might need to know about would be greatly
appreciated also.
Thanks
Steve.

I use the one on the West side of the river when I go down there. Not much parking though, you may have to park a ways down the road. After you cross the bridge turn left at the boat club (large blue bldg) and go to the end of the road.
You gonna talk, or you gonna fish?

I always use the ramp at the gas station in Lanark. Fuel up boat, get bait. It is the nicest around. No current, no waves.

Thanks for that information, Lanark would be a little closer for me anyway.
Hows the parking situation there?
Thanks SH.

The parking at Lanark seemed to be kinda tight last time I was there. The bigger worry, for me anyway, is the channel going out. It can be pretty shallow on a low tide and it isn't marked to well. That's just my opinion though. People that go out of there all of the time would be better help.

The key to leaving Lanark is to follow a local out and GPS mark the channel. You can tell its a local..He's the only one WOT :o

Once you are 50 yards from the end of Lanark reef its wide open.

The ramp has a well marked channel relief map, unless last years hurricanes took it out.

I don't know what the crime rate is in Carrabelle, but being from Atlanta the timber island ramp doesn't look like a good place to abandon your car.

I go out of Lanark often, you just need to take it easy as you go to the main channel but once you past the reef you can open it up.When you turn right just kinda parallel the shore at a slight angle to the left and you should be ok.Just get to the ramp early as it fills up quick on the weekends and you don't have to worry about your rig while you fish.

Timber Island is a good and safe ramp. Folks in Carrabelle watch after each other.
