Garmin usually turns their repairs around in a couple of days. The last time I sent them a unit it was back in 7 days.
What was I supposed to do today?

Two or three summers ago eat-mo and me were not far off of Oyster Bay when some big thunderstorms blew-up. We tried to run but eventually had to turn perpendicularly into a curtain of rain where we were hit by heavy wind and waves and lighting.

We quickly lost our sense of orientation and in the pounding rain the GPS would no longer read.

So we hunkered down low in the boat trying to keep the bow into the waves and a minimal headway and making sure the bilge pump was cranking. For a good ten minutes the compass provided our only clue as to the direction of the oyster bars.

We laugh now but it was downright scary at the time.
