St. Marks Sunday 7/2

Post by mjsigns »

I was waiting for Rodbow to make his post, but I guess I'll kick off the report ...

Got a Call from Rod Bow looking for a fishing partner for Sunday. After not going out since May, I jumped at the chance. Rodbow said no one was catching anything but small sharks and catfish. I jumped at the chance to ride in his new Carolina Skiff. We were first in the lighthouse pool. He gave me the honor of taking the wheel of his boat and giving her a run down near the rock garden to the "trough". There were several huge schools of what looked like cigar minnows. I immediately picked off five shorts within the 15 minutes before drifting into the larger keepers. I went on to put 4 keepers in the cooler and Rodbow managed one keeper on a knock-off jerk bait. When the wind stopped, the bite just shut off. My partner spent most of his fishing time undoing tangles and backlashes from his various fishing poles. The winds were our of the East at 10-15 in the morning and then died off around noon. Water clarity was an awesome 5-7' and hit 83.7 degrees around noon. It felt really good to get out on the water again. I even had a chance to get down in the water and snorkel for a while while the captain took a nap on the forward bow. Rodbow is a great fishing partner and gracious host and captain.

If you ever get a chance to fish with Rodbow, Jump on it.

Final count:

10 shorts
5 Keepers
3 flatheads
1 Pinfish
1 Croaker
3 cut offs

Nothing broke.. kinda.

HOT! and I was wondering if I should notify next of kin should MJ get swallowed up by something. I figured he knew what he was doing swimming with the sharks so I just took a nap 8) . Man nothing beats that bimini shade on a sunny day.

yes.. he caught more fish while I was doing prep work on my reels for next trip

Good job Rodbow and Mjsigns. I guess those who cant fill a cooler can at least be savvy enough to invite those who can. :smt004

I don't want to beat anyone out of a fishing opportunity, but Rodbow, you know I am ready to go on a moment's notice.

My brother is leaving town with my boat today (permanently if I am lucky) and its one of the happiest days of my life like they say.
