I fished P.C. Beach for the first time ever on vacation this year. I went to the local bait shop, Half Hitch Tackle, and got license, bait, and advice. This was the week of tropical storm Alberto, so I took a fair amount of ribbing when I asked for advice on surf fishing. "Get a good surfboard" I think was his reply. After explainig that I was going to wait till the storm passed before trying the surf, he recomended a pyramid sinker with double hook leader, sand flea, and shrimp. I went out early wed. morning to try my luck. Unfortunantly the storm had created 3-4 ft. breakers about where I needed to stand to cast. After getting thouroughly soaked and knocked around for half an hour, without even a nibble, I retreated to the condo. Thurs. morning was more of the same, just way to rough to stand up and cast. I figured I needed to at least get my money's worth for the 7-day license and bait, so I headed off to the pier fri. morning. Had a little bit better luck off the pier. I caught (2) small pompano and a "white mullet". I had no idea what the mullet was, but the guy fishing next to me happily put it in his cooler after telling me what it was.
Total for the week
(2)small pompano
(1) good sized mullet
Had a great time with the wife and kids, so it was a good trip regardless of the so-so fishing.
