Braided line

Post by Mark K »

How do you keep knots forming with braided line on a spinning reel. I've tried Power Pro and Strens new braid with the same results. It's almost as if the line is to light and knots up when casting. It doesn't matter whether I'm casting against the wind or with it.
I like the feel with the braid - but the knots are pushing me back to mono. Anyone else who uses it have this problem???

MARK I had that problem at first. I solved the problem by spooling the line on very tight. I tied one end to a nail in a 4x4 and reeled it up with the drag as tight as could be

I'm using shimano stradics the 4000 and 2500..the 4000 has 40lb power pro and the 2500 has 20lb power pro. I also use line and lure conditioner it it helps a bunch, keeps the power pro kinda limp :-D

Close the bail by hand. Don't turn the handle to close the bail. Eliminates the wind knots and is much better on the reel.

I've been having the same problem as Mark. I'm using a Shimano Stradic 2500 with 20lb Power Pro and Stren Super Braid. I have always been in the habit of closing the bail manually and always check the line for loops before casting. I'm going to try Devans tip about spooling it up extra tight.

All Stradics or Saharas - close bail by hand. 8-10lb diameter lines. Will try the respooling tight. Thanks.

If your not using a reel designed for braided line you will have more problems. A reel like a Stradic 2500 has a retrieval system that puts the line on the reel more uniform than a Penn 4500. I just keep an eye out for loops forming on my reel and have had no problems on my baitcasters.

I've had the same kind of problems on my spinning tackle too. To solve the problem I got a baitcaster. No problems yet-except learning how to use a baitcaster.

Flyrodder, not trying to be funny or sarcastic. But, if you want to learn to use the baitcaster, leave everything else at home.

I use baitcasters where I have cover and have to put alot of pressure on fish, but just enjoy the spinning reels on the flats.
