Atticus, if you have the 172C, you need a memory chip, Bluechart CD (comes with 1 unlock code), and an AC/PC adapter. Don't buy the pre programmed chip. Buy a blank. The 16 meg chip is sufficient. If you need more help, let me know.

Here's where to get your part numbers....

I Also bought the Marine Data management Kit which I think was necessary to have along with the unlock codes...
I bought a 32mb memory chip which I haven't used so far....

I have the 250FF and the 172 GPS....Not color units but they sure make a nice combo...You gonna be impressed !

Your 172C should have come with a cable that hooks up to the computer. When you load the bluechart software and hook up the garmin GPS, the software will take you through the steps of what to do.

My unit didn't come with a blank chip...think you've got to pony up more cash.

The cable and adaptor that connects to the unit, powers it, and connects to the PC is the 010-10276-00 A/C PC Adaptor (US).

Only cables I got with the GPS was the power cable for the boat.

You will love the Garman unit. Go to the charts that TK has put on the site for us and you will have all the public numbers in your unit right away. Now if you have any secret numbers to put in I will come by and help you :-D
