Bellflower in Tallahassee has CS.
Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and the line at the boat ramp gets longer.

I have a J16 and just wanted to pass on some info...

1. If you only fish 2 people the j16 is GREAT- 3 people it is just OK.
I frequently wish i had a bigger boat.

2. The old HP max was 30 with remote steering. Last year it was upped to 40 HP with remote and a few people have 50HP on them.
I have a 30 and wish I had a 40.

3. I would consider the new JV17- it just came out. A little bigger- flared bow so its suppose to be a little dryer ride.

4. Make sure the trailer is set up right for a J16. A lot of dealers put them on non skiff trailers and that makes them hard to load / unload.

5. Go buy a tube of 3m5200---- seal every screw and hole you drill with this stuff. It is the same thing the CS factory uses to mount the boat accessories.

6. Look for a used one- they are in the paper all the time.

Go look at the Carolina skiff owners group on MSN.
The photo section will give you a lot of Ideas

thanks bman I will most times have 2 fishing, rarely 3.

I have a tiller 30 hp, and you're saying it won't be enough? I will fish mostly in close with this for reds, flounder, and some trouts.

I want to keep it small and cheap to operate and haul.

I have a 4 stroke 30- but mine is a remote steer with center console. Storage seat, 2 batteries and front deck.

It will go ok with 2 people- but I always want faster.
The bigger issue is planing- my old 2 stroke 25 got it up on plane faster than my new four stroke 30.

You should be fine but I would ask for a test run first.

My 30 hp Nissan is a 2000 2-stroke. Om my alumacraft welded john 1544 , that weighs in close to a j16, it flys with 2 people and the hole shot is fast.

Its probably a 2stroke vs 4 stroke thing.
the 4 stroke does not have the initial RPM'S and is heaver....

I think that after all this free advice you need to take me to Iamonia :D
we can take my J16 and you can test drive it.....

Bman, put a Bob's Stabilizer Plate on it "you will be amazed at the difference in the hole shot and the control at low speed"

Let me restate that last post....

I think the only way you can be sure is to take a test drive.
Why not meet me at a close lake- Iamonia will work for me.
And we can run the boat...

It would be good to get an idea of how fishable the boat is-
so if you want to bring some tackle we can do that to! :D
