BSA Troop 115 had a 3 day excursion to St, Teresa Beach Fri- Sunday. The home owner had a 21' CC pro-line anchored behind the house. We had a window of opportunity to get out early Saturday before everyone else and fish DI reef.
Left the beach house at seven with th home owner and his son. Ran a bee line (6 miles) to Dog Island Reef. Water was smooth, winds were less than 5mph and the western skies were red. Set a slow drift in 6-8' of water over the grass. The bite was non-stop. Lost 4-5 alongside the boat, and had several cut-off's. If we would have had a landing net we could have come home 30 minutes earlier. Used strait jigs and "Gulp" shrimp-grubs. Picked up three man limit of trout in less than 2 hours. Biggest trout was a little over 18". Anchored the boat back at the house at 9:00 for breakfast. We fried the fish for dinner that night and fed 18 scouts and 8 adults. If I would have Had the camera, I would have posted a few pictures....
We took another group out between 11 - 1 pm and picked off 8 more keepers for the evening feast. 2' - 3' Sharks were chasing the fish to the boat as we were pulling them in. You had to ski the fish to the boat and get-em over the gunwale quickly. We moved the boat a few times to loose the sharks, but they soon gathered under the boat after each move. It was a great trip for both the scouts and the adults.
Felt good to be out on the water again.
