$328 for a 1100 sq ft townhouse thats the middle unit so only two outside walls, and we have the thermostat set at 78'. It's always hot upstairs.
I'm never gonna buy a two story house.

I had a class last semester that was taught by one of the Sr Planners at the city. She said make no bones about it the city makes money on their utilities and relies on it to carry other services that don't make money.

Winter $185 a month. Gas bill $700 a month in winter. I am changing out to a heat pump this winter.

I GUESS WE ARE DOING WELL FROM THE REPORTS OF UTILITY BILLS HERE. WE HAVE A 4,400 SQ. FT. HOME , WITH A 16' CEILING IN THE GREAT ROOM THAT MEASURES 24X36, THOUGHT OURS WAS PRETTY BAD TILL I READ THIS REPORT. OUR BILL LAST MONTH WAS $187.00, WE ARE USING A 4 TON HEAT PUMP, JUST PUT IT IN LAST DEC.

Jumptrout, are you on Talquin? If not you must have energystar everything and double insulation. I tell ya what when we get our first house we're gonna renovate and go with unsulated windows and doors, add extra insulation to the attic and walls when possible. If we build it will have 2x6 exterior walls with extra insulation.

When we were on vacation in Destin I was talking to a guy in the pool who said he invented a product called Attic Shield its a thin roll of aluminum you roll out over the insulation. He claimed aluminum is special in some way about reflecting heat and thats why they use it for NASA stuff?? I know, I know everything thats great was invented for the space program, but it might be worth checking out, he claimed it really lowered heating and cooling costs.

Also I've been checking out these Rinnai tankless water heaters that Glenn Beck and Paul Harvey keep talking about, they look promising as long as you have gas hookups.

That foil your referring to is called a radiant barrier, several companies like georgia pacific are applying it to roof decking, or you can order a roll and wrap a house during new construction...The debate was the effect it has on roof decking and shingles with the added heat it reflects back...Interesting stuff no doubt

If you think your bill is high you need to have an energy analysis pulled on the house, as a blower door test....The amount of pink stuff in the attic is only a small part of the equation, walls, windows, doors, appliances and floors all need to be considered. A new unit might pay for itself in a year or three.

Aint that something...I used to marvel at the money saved by using gas. Now it's through the roof! Luckily I only have a gas water heater, but I roughed in all the appliances for future use. You can bet them pipes won't get used unless prices come way down.
