Shell Point

Post by Fish r us »

I am going to Shell Point for the first time this Sunday. I am taking two of my grandsons.
Could someone tell me where I might catch a fish or two, also let them catch one or two?

The flats out in front of the beach is good for Trout and the narrow White areas that you see are Oyster bars and are good for Trout and Reds as well as and occasional Cobia

scroll south on that map and a big oyster/sand bar will come into view. Drift both sides for trout, blues, spanish...etc. At low tide beach the boat and let the younguns walk around. Lot's of neat stuff to see....starfish, horseshoe crabs, etc....etc...etc

Thanks GC for the information. How is the boat ramp, deep, or not?
Where do you get gas at? I heard that you can go to Panacea by boat and it isn't too far. I'm sorry for all the questions but I have been going out at Keaton.

I'm not even sure if the ramp is open at Shell Point. The last time I put in there (a couple months ago) they had a big floating dock blocking the ramp. I just pushed it out of the way, and proceeded to put in. No gas at Shell Point. Stop and fill up when you turn onto Spring Creek hwy off 98.
If you've never navigated to Panacea by boat, I don't know if I'd suggest it unless you have a gps with a map system.

Shell Point Ramp

The Shell Point ramp was accessible last weekend and it is deep. The docking at the ramp has been removed, so it can be tricky boarding passengers. You can head straight out of the channel and hang a left toward St Marks to find some good grass flats.

The main thing to remember is USE CAUTION, there are sand bars and Oyster bars in places that you would not expect them "especially the sand bars"

Very good advice!! I've fished the area for a long time, and still find a "new" bar from time to time!
Go slow and have fun!
