Shell Point 9/3 (Kayak)

Post by Littoral »

Actually, near Shell Point
Another fishing buddy & I met Apalach, by surprise, and set off to welcome in September. Fishing buddy schooled us for the first couple of hours. Before I ever caught anything he'd caught one each of: Trout, Redfish, Croaker, Ladyfish, Catfish, & Jack Crevalle. I spent a lot of time just believing there were fish around and, of course, remarking how nice a day it was. I finally found the ticket was trying to stay near the little bit of bait that was around. My final tally was ~12 trout, 14-19", lots of nice Ladyfish, a Catfish, and four Jack Crevalle. The Jacks were about 3lbs but fought like 10 pounders. Apalach has a photo of one so perhaps he'll post.

Watch out for old Apalach, he will stop and study the jellyfish just for fun. I guess he can catch something with a backbone every now and then.
:-D

Yeah, we have wondered online here about where the jacks were in recent years. I'd really forgotten how they fight. The last one I caught was about 8 years ago. It went near to 20lbs but I had a cobia rod. The smaller ones are incredible on light tackle. They put redfish to shame.
I never did get the fly rod out yesterday, but I will today!

Nice report

I've been running into a lot of smaller jacks as well, but over hard bottom further out.
