Charleston, SC Redfish

My family and I just got back from our vacation in the Charleston area. We had a great time. My daughter had a wonderful time at the beach, pool, and the Charleston Aquarium. My wife enjoyed herself at the open air markets in down town. Of course my favorite part of the trip, besides finally getting away from my sister-in-law and her husband, was my fishing trip on Tuesday, Aug. 29.

The morning started off a little slow with a few short reds, SC slot is 15-20 in., a couple of nice flounder and a trout or two. Then as the tide started to turn here came the big boys. We found a group of about 50 or so reds in the 12-15# range. They were exploding on bait just on the edge of the turtle grass in about 3' of water. We were fishing live shrimp under popping corks and the typical cast only required one pop of the cork before the shrimp was inhaled. The action was fast and furious and I only got a few pictures of the fishing. I caught about 10 fish that looked as if any of them could be twins.

Nice pheesh.....I sure do love that town....did you see the reds, jacks and cobia at the aquarium, there used to be some whopper cobia in there...

Chalk - I didn't see the cobia but the reds they have are huge and they've also got a couple of monster snook.
