Fishbites?.....does it work?

Post by LUCKYDAWG »

Seems kind-of funny to fish with a strip of colored paper. I have never used this lure. What is the best way to fish it? With wieght or without? What colors seem to work best inshore? Scent? Do you cut your own or get the pre-cut pkgs.? Are you using it along with a grub body?
Any tips would be appreciated.
Thanks.

this past week @ shell point was our first experience with fish bites. I bought 2 packs of the small pre-cut triangles in the yellow and pink glitter. We caught fish with them and without them tipped on our jigs. My best testimonial is when we had run out of shrimp and we were trying to catch pin fish using a yellow fish bite on a bare hook and caught a 19 inch trout!! I think they are a good addition to my tackle box.

Jmay, when trying to catch pinfish, I use a number 6 hook and then I cut a single piece of the fishbites in to 5 smaller pieced. For pinfish the smaller pieces is a must. They are unable to eat the larger ones.

I now use a rig that has the 1/2 to 1oz sinker on the bottom then 3 dropper loops 12 inches apart up the line. If you will set the hook on the first one and wait a few seconds before reeling in, triples are common :D

I like the yellow ones for pinfish, orange for Pompano and all colors for whiting. A keeper Red is not uncommon on any color.

Last year my cousin was with me catching pins for Bull Reds, my cousin was using small pieces of shrimp while I used yellow FishBite pieces. After I dropped my 10th one in the live well to his one, he said, "where are those things?" He later said, "you sold me on those fishbites."

Actually, the colors only come in shrimp at the current time. Other flavors (clam and crab) are in flesh only. (According to Dr. Carr there are colors in the works for these other flavors, but not yet :( ) You have to understand this is almost a family operation and things take time.

I bought a precut pack at the show, envy green or chartreuse. Anyhow, I'm gonna give 'em a try Friday and see how they do. I'm thinkin' pretty good in that stained water.

They work. Use small pieces - about the size of your fingernail or slightly smaller.

The best way to prove to yourself that they work, is to start fishin without them and if the bite is slow, add a small peice to the jig. the bite WILL increase significantly "dang that's a big word"
