Indian River 9/2-9/3

Post by Eerman »

Went to Titusville to visit BIL and family. Decided to explore the Indian River for the first time. First day was fairly uneventful. 4-5 15-16" trout. The spot I had picked wan't impressive. Mostly mud flats. Moved to a different ramp the next day, good choice. Started off the morning with small trout on about every other cast throwing topwater. Saw some substantial waking going on several hundred yards away. My brother in law and I haul tushy over there to see my first Indian River "breeder school" of redfish. A large school of 35-40" fish with tails in the air. I try to position the canoe and tell my BIL to throw out in front of the fish. It is a sight to see BIG redfish leap froggin each other to attack a skitterwalk. He hooks up and the reel starts screaming. Unfortunately, in my excitement, I have postioned the boat perfectly for him to cast and blocked myself. I decide to slowly stand up and cast over him. I stand up...and realize the school is heading right at us. CRAP! Before I can do anything, they see us and go bananas. His fish is still screaming and has turned the canoe 180 degrees and is pulling us along for the ride. 5 minutes in and the dreaded...pop goes the line. :smt010 Last I saw, the fishes were bookin' down the lagoon. I've seen this stuff about Mosquito Lagoon and Indian River on TV. It's the real deal. My BIL isn't big on fishing, I think he's hooked now  I wish we could have gotten that picture for him. Next time. Did I mention, we also had tarpon rolling around us at two different times. Couldn't get hooked up with them though. We went on to catch numerous trout the rest of the day. I think 20-21" was the biggest. I'll be back down there as soon as possible.

Awesome, Ear Man. You'll get'em next time.

2 friends of mine just got back from Mos. Lagoon. They caught a 39" and a 41" red, a 6 lb. trout, and 129lb. tarpon. :o
