Econfina 9-17

Post by Dubble Trubble »

Me and the wife launched Dubble Trubble at daylight, and headed over toward Hickory Mound. We had just began to start casting when a shower (you know, the ones NOAA said would not be there) drenched us fairly good. One good thing from it was a beautiful full rainbow across the water. I got pix and hope to post them tomorrow sometime.

Anyway, we drifted for about an hour picking up one keeper. Around 9, we headed out to Rock Island area and started drifting at one of my spots. The wife caught another keeper(Yeah, she caught the first one), I started worrying. Anyway, I finally got a keeper in the boat, then about 30 minutes later, another. So It was 2 & 2.

At that point the wife proceded to pull in a NICE spanish that went about 24 inches on her "barbie reel" as I call it. Then she hooked a nice 12" Rock Bass. I was sweating again :-? I shut up about the "barbie reel".

The bite slowed, so we ate lunch and went back toward the mouth and drifted, when BAM, I hooked a 22" Trout. Boy, I sure was glad of that one. I did not catch the most fish, but I got the biggest. :P (EDIT: I say that because we threw back her spanish, but I have to admit she got the biggest too  )

Total for the day, 5 trout, 1 spanish, 1 rock bass. Also caught a lot of trash fish, Sharks, lizardfish, pinfish, but surprisingly not one single hardhead all day.

Loaded up at 3pm. headed home, and cleaned and cooked our catch. Fed 6 of us and slept good.

Hooked :-D

Camera did not catch the full rainbow, but here is best shot

I use to fish that area a lot, need to get back. What was the water visibility like?

Actually, surprisingly clear, I could see bottom around 4 feet. BUT, the grass was bad closer in. Not topwater fishin conditions at all....

Hooked :-D
