Aucilla 9-20

Post by DixieReb »

Two boats of us went to Aucilla Wed. am, on water 8:30 with low water. Fished the East bank at tripod and didn't get any trout but buddy had a big shark blow up right at the boat and cut his 30 lb. mono leader. Scared the cr.. outa me! :o We drifted out from tripod and finally found some fish, got 2 keeper reds to 19'' and lost 2 more. Dad and Paul in other boat went west and fished around the first stake, finally found some trout big enough to keep and got 5 real quick. They got several shorts also. Jim and me went over to them about 12:30 and only got 1 keeper so tried east again. Tide topped out at 1 pm and wind kinda quit so nothing happened for a while. Kept drifing east and about 2 pm, BAM!! :D They turned on and we had 2 big trout to 20'' on the floor of boat and got another red 19''. The last 2 trout hit live pins, all the other fish were on new penney gulp. Most of the fish were on CT rig with 2 ft. leaders. We only got one good bite on white gulp, last trip there white was all they wanted. Mighta had something to do with the cloudy water, it was stained. We quit at 3 pm with 8 trout to 20'' and several 17-18'' ones. Good quality fish. Also 2 keeper reds. Dad and Paul had 10 trout to 20'' and 2 reds. It was lotsa fun, can't wait to try 'em again. Had fresh redfish for supper, man what a meal!! :lick:

Rocket, we found 'em in 3 ft. early, then to 5 ft. as the day progressed. Lots of mullet around, also.

Thanks for the report Dixie  Sounds like BOTH parties did real well, good job :D

Did you catch the reds while you were trout fishing or did you have to target em?
"Good Judgement" comes from experience, ... and a lot of that..... results from "Bad Judgement".
