St. Marks 9/21

As promised a quick fishing report:
Left Shield's about 8:15 after fueling and oiling up. Saw a couple tarponios roll in front of Posey's. Saw some redfish on an unnamed oyster bar between the fort and the lighthouse but couldn't maneuver around them due to my dead trolling battery . Dead battery dashed my hopes of working the oyster bars around the river mouth, so I headed to the east flats. Never made past Black Rock.

The water was pretty cloudy, but with the +.9 low @ 8:15 I found some decent visibility between 2 & 3 ft. East wind made for a nice drift, and the breeze forced me to throw out the sock. The plan was to work some lures I don't use enough, in hopes of seeing some consistency and figuring out how to work them. The Top Dog (black top, orange belly) was getting alot of strikes early...my dog walkin is getting pretty good. Hooked up a couple times, but they got off somehow. Who cares, the fun is in the swirl and chase.

Worked on the catch 2000 for awhile as the tide started rising. I just cant figure this one out. I've caught fish on it, but not with any consistency. Had a few hits on it (caught a lizard fish...does that count?). Same deal, couldn't get em hooked up.

Threw a gold spoon/offset spinner I got from somewhere for awhile. Nothing, but I wasn't surprised since it was only on the rod in my hopes of working the oyster bars.

Lotta fishing, no catching, no loss. Just really enjoyed the weather, the peace and quiet, the salt air, and my little girl (dog) who never left the boat but spent half the time with her whiskers tickling my calf.

Good report there DD. Folks who have never spent time with a canine fishing buddy have sure missed out on one of life's great experiences

As a kid grow'n up in Missouri, I'd take off to Hinkson Creek which ran through my Grandfather's property. Gramps had a half collie half shepard mix and an old calico cat that would make the trip with me. Mike (the dog) would hunt squirels and old puss (the cat) would sat next to me and wait for me to catch a eat'n size perch (for her). Good times!

The slower the better with a catch 2000. Also it seems to be a cooler-cold water bait for me.

Freind of mine use them best cool shallow water 3feet or less.

I agree on both counts.

I believe Catch 2000 might be a cool weather plug also.

Top dawgs and she dawgs have been working for me with chrome/blue and chrome/black. Abu 5500 and Berkley Lightning Rod. Yozuri Hybrid 12lb test.

I know the ole St Joe Whiz Hard has a soft spot for animals but no worries....she was still very much alive when this was taken but I had ta start releas'n most of what I caught until she got her weight back under control
