keaton beach report

Post by wetjet »

Went down to keaton on thursday night with about 8 families. Our boat fished friday and saturday morning. Everyone did pretty well on the trout, bluefish, and spanish. We boated 6 keeper trout, 2 blues, and 1 spanish on friday. On saturday morning, we boated 8 keeper trout and 1 blue in about 2.5 hours.

The highlight of the trip was hooking, fighting, and landing a needle fish that was all of 40-inches long. :o He jumped many times doing summersalts and going crazy. Never seen one even half that size before. Quite the fight for a 12 year old boy armed with 8 lb test.

We caught fish from about 3 feet out to over 8 feet with most of the fish holding in the 3 to 5 foot range.

The water is still wine colored but clear enough to see the bottom even in deep water.

It may be too late now. You should have had the needlefish weighted and measured. Sounds like a state record to me.

Doesn't really matter but the needlefish was probably a houndfish....they get really big... 9+ pounds is the Record Breaking area....whew :o
