Marina critic reports being punched at forum

By Bruce Ritchie
DEMOCRAT STAFF WRITER

A critic of a proposed marina in Taylor County told police Thursday night he was punched by the project's developer at a forum that was held to discuss the proposal.

Taylor County resident Rick Causey reported that he was punched in the jaw by Magnolia Bay Marina and Resort developer Chuck Olson during the reception at the Elk's Club in Perry, said Lt. Vern Clark of the Perry Police Department.

Neither Causey nor Olson was immediately available for comment.

Trey Howard, an attorney for Magnolia Bay Marina and Resort, said this morning that he was not aware of an altercation at the event.

Howard said Causey was asked to leave the event, which was described in invitations as an "open forum" sponsored by the Taylor County Development Authority and the Perry/Taylor County Chamber of Commerce. Despite the wording "open forum" on the invitation, Howard said the event was not open to the public.

Clark said police have asked Causey to provide names of people who Causey said witnessed the event.

Despite the wording "open forum" on the invitation, Howard said the event was not open to the public.
Be careful with that wording. Here in Taylor county, an "open forum" is where you're invited to attend if you agree with the forum.

Me thinks it might be blamed on the Taylor County gene pool! :o
It may be that my sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
