St. Joe Bay 9/30, also

Post by tin can »

My son and I arrived at Presnells at about 0640, only to find two shady looking characters hanging around on the front porch of the store. We exchanged greetings, then I pointed out to the owner of the boat that he was blocking the ramp. I suggested he either launch, or move his boat out of our way. I suppose I got the message across. He launched. (Some folks have no boat ramp etiquette)

We headed to the middlegrounds and caught 6 keeper trout to 18". When the sun got up a little we headed to the secret redfish hole. The tide had already fallen out, but we managed 1 drift through the area, and I boated a 20" red.

Moved back out to the middlegrounds for a noon meeting with Ron Wilson, and the two shady characters that were blocking the ramp earlier.

We then heded northwest. Worked a stretch of shoreline in 1 to 2 feet of water. My son decides to climb up on the poling platform and have a look around. He immediately started pointing out reds. Most were cruising, and if you threw a bait within 20 yards of them, they spooked. My son was thrilled when he spotted a red, presented the bait, watched the red turn to his bait, and inhale it. A nice 21" red in the boat. I had one more hookup, but the fish spit the bait.

Not a lot of fish, but I'll take a day on the water with my son any time.
What was I supposed to do today?

Oh, he's hooked, alright. He's 28 years old, Rocket. He fished his first tournament 21 years ago. He grew up in a boat.
