St. Joe Bay 10/09/06 - JT51 & Chalk's First Date

Post by Chalk »

After hearing tale of some breeders being up on Cape San Blas, I had been scheming and dreaming of catching them all last week...Decided I probably owed Jumptrout51 a trip on the pond, even though I'm innocent  I asked JT if he was interested in chasing a redfish, his response was when and where

Met up with JT51 at Bluewater Outfitters this morning...We loaded his gear and headed to the Park...Greeted by a nice park ranger, we named whisker biscuit, she was nice though  ..As we round the bend the waves and wind looked to be normal for me, blowing a gale and stacked up in the basin...we launch my boat into the water, it made it off the trailer in one piece

Based off the wind and waves a trip to the cape was not going to happen this morning, so we head south....Fishing here and there, over there and over yonder....Caught 5,000 little blues, a few persistent lizard fish, pinfish...Only saw two skip jacks all day....ohhh yeah, trout we caught 5 to 17  ...JT51 had a nice one on, keyword had  ...Basically gave JT51 the grand tour of the bay trying to find a trout, not much in that department...Let's try redfish, found them...I missed a few, JT51 missed a few....We finally connect at the same time :-D

I have seen a better looking head on a beer  , JT51's 25" Redfish

Mine is too big :smt010 28 1/4" :smt007

We could of caught some more reds, but I was on a mission to find a trout, still looking  ...So off we go, prospecting, several good spots, but not much happening....So, I say, "Where do you wanna go?" JT51 says, "Let's go up past eagle harbor."

So, off we go, headed towards the south side of Blacks's to cross the bay....Clipping along at about 36 mph, getting ready to make my turn north and all of a sudden the boat makes a hard right turn...along with a loud whack sound...Luckily I managed to pull the throttle back...It could of been worse, now that I think about it...Seems one of the 2x4's from the construction on Black's Island had found a home between my transom and motor...Other than soiled shorts and one dead transducer and speed wheel, nothing was broken or damaged, like my new prop

The culprit, my prize...The pool deck is 3 foot across, so almost 4 foot of boat damaging wood

Had a great time JT51, glad you tagged along, maybe we will get them next time

...along with a loud whack sound...
Are you sure that wasn't JT mopping your deck? You know how he likes to unexpectedly land in the bottom of the boat like that? :D

Chalk thought I kept getting water out of my pack. Actually I kept marking spots on my GPS in secret. Fortunatley he never asked me to show him my secret spots. You know, the ones where I have caught 14-15 pounds of big fat trout.
I did feel bad about him hitting that board I left in the bay until I read the derogatory remarks he made in this post. I no longer feel bad.
Maybe I shouldn't have revealed all this. He might offer to take me again.
