Redfishing

Post by rocket »

Anybody been doing any good around Aucilla and Ecofina for redfishing? Went last weekend and caught three 20 inchers. Seems like there is WAY too much freshwater, and with all this rain, it might stay like that a while!

I been catchin'um out around the second birdrack. Just ease your boat up to within about a half mile to the rack, on the downwind side, and switch off your motor. You'll have to paddle in from here, so's you don't spook'em. Just paddle on up to the rack and when you get about 5-10 feet away, you need to lasso one of the post with a rope and tie off. Important, don't let you're boat bump into the racks or you'll scare'em all off. Now, let's get down to the catchin! You'll need a good sturdy reel'n'rod with some pretty tough line, my favorite is a zebco 303 with 30# line, but whatever you choose is your business. I like to rig it with a shock leader of some sorts, piece a clothes line wire usually does the trick, and end it with a #1 treble hook. Now, here's my secret so keep it this way, you take three different color jigs, and hook one on each barb of the treble hook, that way no matter what color there bitin, chances are, you got one on already. Now you just wanna fish this rig under a poppin cork, with a few split shot to keep the bait under, and toss it all around the rack.
Whew-wheeeeeee!!!!, you better hold on tiger, cause if you followed these instructions exactly, then you're gonna be in for a fight.
Now, please keep my personal method a secret, and, partner, me and you will be turnin heads at the boat ramp.
Maybe I'll see ya out there someday, and you can thank me.

I have to apoligize to all you other members out there for all that jibberish, but just had to razz ole rocket, because he's a friend of mine. Good guy to, you should get him to tell 'ya the one about the time he showed me how to properly land a big trout, over,or almost over, the side of a boat.

The minute I read that first reply, I knew that fisherman was from Wacissa. Didn't know who Fish Masterson was until the second reply. He is easy to spot though guys. He's usually tailing me on the flats, constantly on the binnoculars watching me, and trying to figure out why I'm always reeling them in, and he has to stop at JR's for a sandwich on the way home, instead of calling his girl and telling her to heat up the frying pan!!! :D :D :D Seriously though, Fish Masterson will produce his fair share of fish. As long as you don't mind eating Sail Cat, or Grunts. But it's always fun when you go with him, and I'm glad to know I have a buddy like him.

This was my first post. I have learned alot since then, but this brings back memories of watching Rocket tied to that birdrack for days on end, waiting for that elusive redfish strike. I guess I shouldn't have poked fun at the ole boy like that. He sure was a trooper about it, when i finally burst his bubble.

Only thing I've ever tied to at Ecofina is a broke down boat while I pulled them in.
Nice to see you come off the sidelines.
