Decided to go out and try to find a trout if it killed me.
Tried a new 'shortcut' down to St. Marks and it didn't work-out. I was going to put-in at the lighthouse but after I backtracked from the 'shortcut' I put in at the fort instead. 8:15AM the fort was pretty empty just a few trucks there at the ramp.
Dunked the boat and ran out to the bird rack. Was planning on heading East but I see a bunch of birds working something on the surface and decided to toss a spoon at them. Wound up catching some ladyfish and then got too shallow and had to use the TM to get back to water I could run in.
Ran East to Peters Rock and started a drift to the NNE. Drifted from 10ft all the way to about 3.5-4ft. Only a couple 16inch trout to show for it. Fishing was pretty slow. I threw the trout back (had dinner plans) and also released about 7 shorts. Best bite was in 5.5 to 4.5 feet of water - clear water and good grass 74.5 degrees in 5.5 feet. Bone diamond SWAs on a jig head is what I was fishing.
I was planning on heading to the shoreline and working on some redfish but a big storm came-up.
I ran back to the bird rack area and there were a couple other boats waiting there. Rain spout had covered the lighthouse and most of the channel markers.
I pointed the boat into the waves (SW) and idled to maintain position while I put all the rods under gunnels. Just sat there waiting and finally decided there would be an opening in the T-boomer gauntlet so I pointed her N and hit the throttle.
Well the Red Sea parted and I scooted up through the clouds on all sides, the stinging rain and the thunder right into the river - it was pretty sweet. 40mph and I stood up howling like a wolf, hat backwards, rain hitting my face - the sun broke through - it was awesome.
Anyway - back on the trailer around 1. Washed off the boat and headed home for NASCAR and nappy time on the couch.

Wow! What that must be like.

I can only vaguely remember what that must be like....before having children.
Thanks for the report.
