Back in the Saddle

Post by mjsigns »

It has been quite some time since my last post. I had blown my old 85hp Evinrude back in May. I found an old 70 hp Evinrude to replace it. It took about four days and lots of help from my friends, and a final waive of Waivel Porter's magic to finish it off. I picked up the boat Friday afternoon and headed straight for the fort for a trial run. I had a little trouble with the gas tank feeding the engine, but other than that it was smooth. The 70hp is quite a bit lighter than the 85 and it made the old Key West a bit more nimble and easy to handle. Got the old girl up to 35mph a few times. Looks like I'll have many more good days on the water in the days to come....

She is a bit ugly, but she runs fine.

Good to have you back MJ. I recently sold the same Keywest that you have. It was a great boat and the new one will have a lot of catching up to do. That 70 will probably run forever....go get um !!!!!!! :-D :-D :-D

Bman- You're right on...

Already lost two of them ugly push poles, and I don't think this one will disappear as easy as the others... :-D

Just wondering--what model is that Key West? I ask because I have a 1720, yet I only run a 60hp Yamaha (but most that I see run 90hp).

RT- Mine's in the 17' foot range. I had a (1978) 85hp evinrude till it blew a cylinder. Hopefully this (1988) 70 will run for at least 10 more good years... It runs comfortably fast on smooth water and seems to use a little less fuel.

On a different note, it seems like you me and Welby have the same boat...
