St Marks nearshore 10-25

Post by Redfish Jim »

Snuck out of work Wednesday before noon and went down to the fort. Wanted to beat the front that's making things so dreary around here to check my crab traps. Did a little fishing while I was out there during the last three hours of the rising tide.

Had a decent day. Limited out on Grouper, 24" - 28", and left them biting. Stopped fishing when I reached the limit. Got 'em trolling and also bouncing a bucktail jig off the bottom while drifting over good bottom. Tipped the jig with fresh strips of a mackerel I tail hooked while trolling. Also caught 5 huge sea bass on the jig. Got 7 more keeper sea bass in my traps. Never fished deeper than 25'.

Some @#$%&^*%$#@#$ (or perhaps multiple @##$%&^%*^%'s) checked a couple of my traps for me :smt013 So, not as many claws as the last couple of trips. Still enough for a good meal for me and the missus :lick:. Gonna eat some grouper tomorrow. :lick:

By early evening, it was dead calm. Had a really nice ride back in.
