St Marks nearshore 11-2

Post by Redfish Jim »

Got out of work early, ran a personal errand and then met a friend for an afternoon fishing trip. I always have high hopes but was even more confident than usual this trip based on last week's results. Got to our first spot and started trolling a CD 18. It got nailed within minutes and we pulled up a beautiful 26" grouper.

Hot dang! My optimism at this point warped into irrational delusions. I guess that's why the fish gods decided to bring me down a notch or two.

Went to a bunch of spots and tried every tactic I know. No more grouper except a single undersize fish near the end of the day :smt010 . We did manage a bunch of black sea bass, including two of the biggest I've ever seen that hit the CD lure. Plenty of fish for my buddy to feed his family and I saved the smaller fish (but still legal) to put in my crab traps .

Other than it getting a little hot, you couldn't have asked for a nicer day out there. Pretty much flat calm. Based on Futch's report, Tuesday may have been the day to be out there. Also, the water temp was up from last week so maybe that had something to do with it.

Still searching for answers so I'll be out there again next chance I get.

Been away from the computer for a couple of days. Sorry for the delayed response RB.

Was in pretty shallow water all day. 18 - 25'. Same areas where I limited out a week earlier.
