Live Oak Island 6/9

Post by Charles »

Pretty much the same as yesterday. Walked out and got to where I wanted to be about 5:30. Started catching fish at a quarter to six on a 7M28 MirrOlure. The action seemed slower today, but I never made all the way out to where I was picking them up on every cast yesterday before I had a limit. The keepers seemed to be running a little bigger today, with the big one being twenty and the rest being obviously over 15. All on that same lure. Many shorts, one so small I briefly considered trying live bait.

A skimmer came around three times trying to pick up my MirrOlure and make off with it. He finally either got tired of the game, or figured out the lure wasn't real, and flew off to bother somebody else.

Saw a sea turtle poke his head up.

Once I got the fifth trout in the cooler I debated staying until dark, and just catch and release, but decided if I left there was still just enough water on the flats to hop in the boat and let the wind take me most of the way in. I could have done this part of the way yesterday, but decided to walk. So today I got in the boat and rode the wind back to the hill while munching a cereal bar, drinking a Coke and wondering if anybody made trout release flags and how many I should get. :-D

Did you ever find any trout release flags?

It'd be funny as heck to come in with several flapping in the breeze.
