There is a large slough off the main river that runs through our lease. It is about 100 feet wide and averages 5-6 foot deep with deeper holes. Lots of laydowns and cover for the bass to hang in.
After leaving the potbelly does behind, I grabbed the rod and set out along the bank for some action. Wanted to try the new shaky head technigue, so I tied on a quarter ounce jighead and a worm in a color to be named at a later time.

I only had about a couple of hours to fish, so I targeted select laydowns that looked productive. Kinda unusual pattern emerged. Laydowns in the sun, the bass were holding underneath the larger wood and would ambush the bait near the top or on the fall. Those fish in the shadows would pick it up lightly off the bottom and swim away with it. Caught several fish with three nice keepers, the largest being 3 pounds. This bunch is going in the grease rather than the livewell this time.
There is finally some current and flow in the river after being down all summer. The river had been as low as 1 ft. at Blountstown back in August, but this week it has been around eight feet. The fish are beginning to respond in kind.
